Nature has blessed Wilderness with a pleasant temperate climate. The climate is wonderful all year round with temperatures hardly ever dropping below 8°C.

Renowned for its natural beauty and golden beaches, Wilderness has become an internationally sought-after holiday destination. Wilderness is surrounded by rivers, lakes, estuaries and beaches set against the backdrop of lush forests and imposing mountains.

Wilderness is home to many types of wildlife, in particular birds. Many types of water birds breed here, making it an ideal area for bird-watchers.

Wilderness is an exciting playground for both young and old.
Explore the Wilderness area by: Wilderness has a great number of craftsmen and women in the area. Their work is often for sale and the tourist can pick up many bargains at the craft markets. This and many other interesting aspects of the town add to its rustic charm.

Wilderness is a place that must be visited by any tourist to the Garden Route; it truly is a place of timeless beauty. There are many things to see and do in this small village. The Map of Africa viewpoint offers fantastic views of the Kaaimans River Valley.

Another great viewpoint is Dolphin Point which gives a magnificent view of the Wilderness coastline and ocean. It was named after the number of dolphins which can be spotted from here on a regular basis, as well as whales during the winter months in their breeding season.

Sadly, the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe steam train does not operate any more. An interesting and fun alternative is the Outeniqua Power Van. It leaves from the Outeniqua Railway Museum and winds its way through the mountains. Take in the views whilst listening to the commentary of an experienced tour guide. The scenic routes include forests, four passes, waterfalls, seven tunnels, fynbos and bird & animal life. The panoramic trip takes 2½ hours, including a 30 minute picnic stop.

The Garden Route is known as the Golfing Mecca of South Africa. With no less than 12 golf courses, all within an hour's drive from Wilderness, one is spoilt for choice.
